II. Organizational Context and Scope

The Caribbean is a region with countries of origin, transit, and destination, with unique and identifying characteristics that define the nature of migration: geography, languages, isolation, and interdependence, among others. Economic, political, ethnic, and linguistic diversity in the region have made migration coordination challenging.

The Regional Program on Migration, funded by the US Department of State Bureau for Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) seeks to improve the capacities of the States of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean in working towards a humane and sustainable migration governance. The Program is comprised of four pillars: Migration Management; Regional Dialogue and Partnerships; Migration Crisis Management; and Communication for Development.

III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, based in Costa Rica Regional Office of Central and North American and the Caribbean, and direct supervision of the Regional Program on Migration Program Support Officer for the  Caribbean, based in IOM Guyana, and in coordination with the Program Communication Unit, in, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Collection, editing, and updating all substantive media content for the IOM website and social media related to the Caribbean components of the Western Hemisphere Program. Content includes blogs, photos, video production, promotional pieces, and e-mail and others.
  • Responding to technical and informational needs of the program in relation to the online platforms, particularly in website design, functionality, and performance.
  • Providing feedback, and suggestions, for website improvement, user-friendliness, and functionality.
  • Provide technical assistance to WHP activities, including national task forces in various Caribbean countries through regular communication and technical support, where appropriate.
  • Assisting in the coordination of the design process for printed materials associated with the Caribbean components of the Program.
  • Keep the Program Support Officer and the Program Coordinator informed of relevant event of the program.
  • Monitor Caribbean migration-related issues in print and digital media.
  • Seek, collect, and communicate relevant information regarding the different migration thematic areas.
  • Facilitate the use of existing and new technologies for regular communications within and among the governments and other migration stakeholders in the Caribbean.
  • Create and update contact lists of the migration stakeholders in the Caribbean.
  • Maintain a dynamic communication with members of thematic networks through organized virtual events and other digital strategies.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

IV. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

 

  • University degree in the fields of communications, public relations, international affairs, policy, human rights, development, international migration, law, or social sciencesWith at least two years of relevant professional experience;
  • Or, high school diploma with at least four years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience developing and disseminating digital content for websites for international organizations or non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in marketing and communications.
  • Experience using basic HTML and CCS, along with experience developing websites in particular with Drupal or similar content management systems.
  • Experience in engagement with medium and technical level government officials

 

V. Languages

Required (specify the required knowledge)

 

English (fluent) and Spanish (fluency preferred).

French (advantageous)
