II. Organizational Context and Scope

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

The Western Hemisphere Program, funded by the United States Department of Population's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM), seeks to improve the capacities of States in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean to govern migration in a humane and sustainable manner. The Program has four pillars: migration management, regional dialogue and partnerships, migration crisis management, and communication for development.

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Regional Program Coordinator and the direct supervision of the program´s Information Management Senior Assistant, the Project Assistant will be responsible for executing the following tasks:

III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Assist in the review and writing of information products, prior to their final publication (in English and Spanish) considering design standards, publication norms and terminology used in IOM.
  2. Support the translation into English and French of reports, infographics, presentations, content for regional digital platforms, among others, considering the terminology used in IOM.
  3. Support the regional team and regional mission focal points in the management of MigApp content and the generation of content on the various topics of the application on a regular basis. 
  4. Assist in feeding the backup databases to control the content management of the different digital platforms of the program (MigApp, IOM Migration Portal, Website, among others).
  5. Incorporate the information collected and update the contents in CMS (Content Management System) for different digital platforms of the program, according to the indications of the regional team.  
  6. Collaborate in usability processes, detection of failures and errors that affect the display of content or the operation of CMS and digital platforms such as MigApp, IOM Migration Portal.
  7. Keep in constant communication with the Program team in the countries of the region.
  8. Other functions assigned by the supervisor, in accordance with their professional capacities.

IV. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High school degree with 4 years of relevant experience

 OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences with 2 years of relevant experience.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience in report writing for different target audiences, systematization, research and synthesis of information for the generation of content for virtual platforms.

 

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of alphanumeric data storage in Excel and/or Access environment.
  • Basic knowledge in the translation of documents into Spanish, English and French.
  • Identification of topics of interest to audiences in different social networks.
  • Knowledge in proposal and creative writing of publications for the media.
  • General migration studies will be an advantage.

 

  • Studies related to social and collective communication, content management, knowledge management, among others.
