IOM supports labor migration system improvement in Costa Rica
November 1, San José, Costa Rica - Representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), the General Directorate for Migration and Foreign Affairs (DGME), and the International Labor Organization (ILO) have created the Labor Migration Group (GML).
Guatemala raises awareness about recruitment scams
“Ask, notice, and check” is the message of Guatemala’s campaign to people interested in migrating, telling them to inform themselves about fraudulent job offers, primarily in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. It was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Relations and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of Guatemala with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in response to the high numbers of reported scams involving jobs abroad.
IOM and its partners support efforts for improving labor migration management in Mesoamerica and the Caribbean
During the month of September, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its partners in different countries of the region met with various actors with the goal of discussing labor migration management for the benefit of all sectors.
In conjunction with the Central American Federation of Agricultural and Agro-industrial Chambers (FECAGRO), IOM has begun developing a proposal to create a regional coordination mechanism for labor migration management in the agricultural sector in Central America and the Dominican Republic.
IOM and ILO hold workshop on fair and ethical hiring of migrant workers
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) are leading the regional workshop “Governance of Labor Migration: Fair Hiring and Prevention of Fraudulent Practices”. The event, which was inaugurated today in Guatemala City and will end on Thursday, September 5, takes place within the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM).
IOM promotes employment connection system for migrants in Mexico
164 million people in the world today are migrant workers, generating 9% of global GDP. These people play an important role in the labor market and contribute to the economies and societies of both their countries of origin and destination. They promote development by creating new businesses and strengthen ties between their country of origin and their country of destination through the transfer of technology and skills.

The Social Economic Councils of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten held a Symposium on Migration and Socioeconomic Development, Challenges, and Policy Options on May 9 and 10, 2019, in Curaçao, in which representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) presented on topics related to maximizing the benefits of migration, formal participation in the workforce, and opportunities for regional cooperation in the Caribbean.
