Stories of Migrant Children in Mesoamerica

Costa Rica - On Wednesday (17/8) IOM, in partnership with the Government of Guatemala, published: “Paths of Light and Shadow: Stories of migrant children and adolescents.” The book comprises 16 illustrated stories based on the true accounts of Central American girls and boys narrating their perilous journeys to the United States.

IOM Launches Virtual Community on Risks of Irregular Migration in Central America

Costa Rica - A new virtual community InformArte en Movimiento (Information on the Move) will be launched tomorrow (17/8) in Central America to strengthen migration management capacities in border communities, especially among youth, to reduce irregular migration, and protecting the human rights of migrants. The platform is on Facebook (InformArte en Movimiento) and Twitter (@Infomovimiento).

IOM Workshop: Human Rights of Migrants for Costa Rican Police

Costa Rica - Students at the National Police Academy of Costa Rica are taking an IOM-designed course to enable them to better assist and uphold the human rights of migrants most at risk. Graduates of this training, which finishes tomorrow (13/07), will likely become border police officers.

Migrant Assistance Centre Opens in Chiapas on Mexico-Guatemala Border

Mexico - On Wednesday (25/05) an Assistance Center for Migrants and Refugees was opened in the municipality of Motozintla in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. The facility will provide direct support to migrants and refugees in high risk situations, both those in transit and newcomers who have decided to settle in Motozintla.

IOM Organizes Workshops on LGBTI Migration in Central America

Costa Rica - Today, May 17, the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), IOM is organizing two workshops in Tapachula, Mexico, on the border with Guatemala, to train public servants and members of civil society organizations on protection of the rights of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex) migrants and refugees.
