The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission have partnered with the aim of improving migration management in the region, by establishing this month a joint Working Group. This partnership will prioritize coordination and building capacity of national governments in the areas of research and migration data collection, diaspora engagement, and COVID-19 recovery and environmental migration.

The organizations’ Cooperation Agreement signed in 2016 provides the impetus for this cooperation and the Terms of Reference established for the Working Group will guide both parties on their roles and responsibilities as they enter this partnership. This new collaboration is a significant step in maximizing countries’ capacity to manage Eastern Caribbean free movement and other migration flows in orderly and humane ways.

This partnership was done under the Western Hemisphere Program, with funding from the US Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
