Mexican states share their best experiences in implementing migration policy

The National Coordination of Migrant Attention Offices (CONOFAM) in association with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), prepared a report on Good Practices in the Implementation of Migration Policy at the Local Level in twelve Mexican states. The purpose of the report was to identify, share and provide guidelines for governments to replicate actions that contribute to good migration governance and benefit both migrants and receiving communities.

The document validation event was accompanied by a capacity building session on September 23 and 24 in Cancun, Quintana Roo. During the event, the representatives of the Offices of Attention to Migrants (OFAM) strengthened their knowledge of Migration Policy and shared experiences, particularly on the topics of migration governance from the local level, state experiences with the Migration Governance Indicators (IGM), priorities and needs of local governments, the migration governance framework and the role of local governments.

The representatives of the OFAMs presented the most outstanding good practices implemented in their respective states and received feedback from their counterparts, as well as from the IOM team.

Eleven people participated, representing the OFAMs of Durango, Chihuahua, Oaxaca, Yucatan, Mexico City, Jalisco, Veracruz and Baja California.
